Your Attic is Not Like Any Other Part In Your Home
Your attic must stay ventilated in order for it to do its job. It is a buffer zone between the outside world and your home, so it needs to have proper ventilation to reduce moisture and to keep optimal temperatures.
In the warmer months, ventilation keeps hot air from building up in your home which will help decrease cooling costs. Vents also help lower temperatures which will increase your roofs life. Without proper ventilation, the roofs are subject to greater temperatures which allow them to overheat.
In the cooler months, attic vents reduce moisture. If moisture builds up its can lead to mold, mildew, and rot the framing.
It is best to have a combination of vents, such as gable and soffit vents. Gable vents are located at the the peak of the attic and provide airflow to the upper portion on the attic. Soffit vents are located on the overhang shown in the picture.
One our custom homes, we use Architectural Depots Gable vents. They blend in with the home making it a perfect match.
Architectural Depot has many options of vents, check them out at www.architecturaldepot.com.
